⚖️App comparison · updated July 2026

NutriMind vs MacroFactor

The nutrition-science favorite — a genuinely excellent adaptive TDEE engine and, since January 2026, a separate Workouts app. No free tier, and the two apps don’t coach each other.

The short version

MacroFactor is the closest competitor on nutrition science: its adherence-neutral adaptive expenditure algorithm is superb, its logging toolkit matches NutriMind’s modality-for-modality, and the new Workouts app is a serious lifting tracker. The real differences are structural: MacroFactor has no free tier ($71.99/yr minimum after trial), splits nutrition and training into two separately-subscribed apps that — in its own words — share no coaching features at launch, and offers no coach chat, no in-app social, and no medication or CGM tracking. NutriMind puts a comparable adaptive engine, training, coach chat, and social in one app that is free to start.

Where MacroFactor shines

Fair is fair — these are real strengths, and if they are all you need, MacroFactor is a fine choice.

  • Adaptive expenditure (TDEE) algorithm that back-calculates energy expenditure from logged intake + trend weight and adjusts targets weekly — adherence-neutral, with Coached, Collaborative, and Manual modes
  • Full logging toolkit: AI photo recognition, describe-your-meal, barcode and nutrition-label scanning, voice logging, and a verified ~1.36M-entry food database
  • Micronutrient tracking (vitamins, minerals, fiber) and a recipe importer from URLs
  • MacroFactor Workouts (launched Jan 2026): 900+ strength exercises with Jeff Nippard technique videos, personalized program generation, auto-progression, RIR tracking, plate calculator, and per-muscle volume/progress charts
  • Ad-free, with a stated data-never-sold policy; 500,000+ users
  • Apple Health and Google Fit import, plus home/lock-screen widgets

Where NutriMind goes further

A free tier exists

NutriMind is free to start (ad-supported) with optional Premium. MacroFactor is premium-only — $71.99/yr minimum after a 7-day trial, as of July 2026.

One app, one subscription

Nutrition and strength training live in the same NutriMind app. MacroFactor splits them into two apps (bundle $89.99/yr), and its own Workouts page states there are no shared coaching features or automatic program adjustments between nutrition and training at launch.

A coach you can actually talk to

Persistent, multi-conversation AI coach chat. MacroFactor’s coaching is algorithmic weekly target adjustment (Coached / Collaborative / Manual modes) — no chat-based coach appears on its official feature pages.

Strength standards, scored

Strength Score with exact percentile rankings and a Beginner→Elite band ladder with kg-to-next-band. MacroFactor Workouts advertises no strength standards, scores, or percentile comparisons.

A 3-axis body map

Recovery, strength tiers, and weekly volume per muscle in one view. MacroFactor charts per-muscle volume and progress only.

In-app social

Friend challenges (including strength types), a PR + workout activity feed, and share cards. MacroFactor has no in-app social layer — its community exists externally in a Facebook group and subreddit.

Medication + CGM tracking

GLP-1 medication dose tracking and CGM/glucose logging — not offered or advertised anywhere by MacroFactor.

Six localized languages

NutriMind is fully localized in EN, ES, es-419, FR, DE, and PT. MacroFactor’s official materials do not advertise localized interfaces, and its label scanning is optimized for US/Canada nutrition labels.
